Pain Vs. Pleasure: What Drives You?

Did you know that we are driven in life by only 2 different things?

Crazy right?

…but true!

Tony Robbins

Ever heard of the guy?

If not, you need to get familiar with him stuff ASAP.

He is the go to life and success strategist in the world.

Celebrities go to him.

Star athletes go to him.

Anyone who has money goes to him.

….to maximize their life.

Is There A Point Here?

Of course.

Tony Robbins (after ridiculous amount of research) has discovered that there are two different things that will drive us as human beings.

Pain and Pleasure.

Away from pain.

Towards pleasure.

Plain and simple.

You might not even realize this on a conscious level.

It really is more subconscious activity.

If you determine that something will cause more pain and un-comfort you will then stay away from it.

For example:

A person that starts to get out of shape does not go to the gym.  He or she determines that exercising is more painful than having a fat body.

On the other hand:

A person that is healthy and in shape that does in fact go to the gym determines that be fat and out of shape is more painful than going to get a good workout in.

That Is How We You Are Anchored

Is one better than the other?

Well, being in shape is probably more beneficial to a person than not, but it is always up to the individual.  We always have 360 degrees of interpretation at any moment in life.

I am not here to tell you what is right and what is wrong.

That is up to you.

I am here to tell you that if you want to make a change in your life you have to start associating and anchoring extreme pain to the things that you don’t want in your life.

You have to associate extreme pleasure with the things you do want.

Push Vs. Pull

You must get to the point where you are attracted to and pulled towards everything you want in life rather than continually grinding towards the things.

If you have to be consistently pushed towards your goals it is coming from an external motivation and that is good for a while….

…however, that motivation will alway dry up.

…it will always have a cap on it.

At the same time, if you are being pulled towards your dreams then it will never slow down.

You will be able to go on and on and on.

It is internal motivation.

A great metaphor for this is external motivation is like a tow truck towing your car.

…it will get you to some places, but its not going to get you across the country.

On the other hand, the internal motivation is like putting gas in your car and taking it to the shop.

You can keep going on and on.

You don’t need the tow truck to do anything for you.

You have it all on your own and you can do whatever you want.

You can go wherever you want.

You can be who you want.

You accomplish anything you want.

Bet on yourself because you are the house…

….and the house ALWAYS wins!
